How to let your coding agents report back when they finish

Agents running in a Herdr pane can run peerband notify "text" to send you a note. It shows in your PeerBand dashboard and goes to your webhooks. The PeerBand skill teaches agents when to use it.

Install the skill

peerband setup offers to install the PeerBand skill for every coding agent it finds. To install or update it later:

peerband skill

The skill tells agents to send a note when a long task finishes, or when they need a decision from you, and to keep secrets out of notes.

What a note looks like

peerband notify "Refactor done. 3 tests fail in billing; want me to fix them or stop here?"
  • 1 to 1024 characters. Control characters are removed and likely secrets are redacted, as a best effort.
  • Run inside a Herdr pane, the note names the agent in that pane.
  • It needs the Relay tab's helper to be connected. A note sent while offline fails with an error instead of waiting in a queue.

Where notes go

Every note shows in your dashboard next to the agent. It also goes to every webhook that subscribes to Agent notes, such as Slack or Discord. To send it to one webhook only, add --channel. See routing notes to channels.

Notes go to the machine owner only, never to people you shared the machine with.

Ask for it explicitly

You can also ask in a prompt:

Run the full test suite and fix what fails. When you're done, send me a peerband notify with the result.

Questions

Can an agent send me a note without the skill?

Yes. peerband notify is a normal command; any agent that can run shell commands can use it. The skill only tells agents when it's appropriate.

Are notes stored?

Notes appear in your dashboard and are delivered to your webhooks. Keep credentials and personal data out of them.
