How to let your coding agent set up PeerBand for you
Ask your agent to follow the PeerBand setup skill at https://peerband.com/skill. With your go-ahead, it installs the peerband CLI and connects the machine. The one step it can't do is sign-in: you approve the code in your own browser.
Hand it to your agent
Paste this into Claude Code, Codex, Gemini CLI or any agent that can run terminal commands:
Set up PeerBand on this machine. Follow https://peerband.com/skill and tell me when I need to approve sign-in.
The skill tells the agent which commands to run, what to check, and what it must never do, such as approving a sign-in code for you or pasting credentials into chat.
What the agent does
- Checks that the machine has Node.js 22.13+ and Herdr 0.9.3+.
- Asks before running anything in your terminal, then installs the CLI with
npm install -g peerbandand starts sign-in. - Stops and asks you to approve the code shown in the terminal at
peerband.com/device. - Adds the PeerBand plugin to Herdr and opens the PeerBand Relay tab with
peerband relay. - Runs
peerband statusand gives you the MCP URL to add to your client.
Your part
Approve the device code yourself, and only when it matches the one your agent's terminal shows. Then add the MCP URL to ChatGPT or Claude and approve access there. Sign-in and consent always happen in your browser, never in chat.
Questions
Is it safe to let an agent install this?
The agent only runs public install commands. It cannot approve sign-in, which needs your PeerBand account in your browser. The CLI is open source on GitHub.
What else does the PeerBand skill teach my agents?
How to treat relayed messages, by owner or by guest, and when to send you a note with peerband notify. Setup installs it for every agent it finds.
